• UnionPay is a fast-growing payment card brand. Now UnionPay has become the first-choice for payments of Chinese outbound cardholders, and also for cardholders from Asia and other countries around the world.
• The UnionPay card acceptance has expanded to over 150 countries and regions with more than 26 million merchants and 1.8 million ATMs accepting UnionPay cards globally.
• In China, on average everyone has about four cards in his/her wallet.
• There are more than 40 million UnionPay cards issued outside mainland China. The cardholders come from Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, etc.
• UnionPay makes the direct conversion between AUD and RMB, while other card schemes always convert to USD first. This makes UnionPay card more cost effective to use.
• UnionPay does not charge cardholders currency conversion fee, while other schemes normally charge 1—2% fees
• In Australia, up to today, about 80% of ATM and 50% of merchants accept UnionPay cards. ATMs include NAB, Westpac, ANZ, Bank of Melbourne, Citibank and much more. For a full list please refer to the UnionPay International website.
• Australians can now take UnionPay cards to Asia when they travel. Either via Bank of China (Australia) who issues UnionPay debit card and Australia Post who issues Load and Go China prepaid travel cards at any of their outlets nationally.
