Artist Angela Cavalieri
A magical dream of Venice comes to Melbourne, with this combination of music and art inspired by revolutionary Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi.
Multi–award–winning artist Angela Cavalieri returns from a residency at Venice’s Scuola Internazionale di Grafica to present new works based on Monteverdi’s final opera, alongside monumental prints inspired by his Madrigals of War and Love.
The exhibition is a culmination of Angela’s exploration of music as storytelling from the last four years including a commission from the Arts Centre Victoria and her Creative Fellowship at State Library Victoria.

Join Mary Lou Jelbart, Artistic Director of fortyfivedownstairs in conversation with Sonya Lifschitz, pianist in ensemble group Press, Play and exhibiting artist Angela Cavalieri as they cover influences both musical and artistic as well as their personal approaches to interpreting the work of legendary composer Claudio Monteverdi.

Join Angela Cavalieri as she speaks about her recent body of work and the inspiration taken from State Library Collection items. Dr Colin Holden will discuss the significance of words and text in relation to Monteverdi's madrigals. The talk includes a presentation of images of collection items referenced during Angela's 2012 State Library Victoria Creative Fellowship.

Hear John O'Donnell, acclaimed harpsichordist and Monteverdi scholar as he speaks about the man behind some of the world’s most legendary music. John is also performing in the CANZONE - Music as Storytelling performance Cantations along with members of the Accademia Arcadia.
