EYES WITHOUT A FACE

Curated by Australian Centre for the Moving Image

An explosive and timely documentary that examines the ever increasing erosion of privacy and the government’s growing and alarming powers to monitor and record our every move.

What’s so remarkable about this Academy Award winning documentary is the restraint director Laura Poitras exercises over this potentially explosive and dramatic material. Instead she chooses to focus on the humble Edward Snowden’s increasing awareness that his live is not his own anymore. Holed up in a Hong Kong hotel room with Snowden, Poitras captures the sensational now public series of events as they unfold in real-time. All the while documenting Snowden’s dawning awareness that he has been elevated from whistle-blower and counter culture hero to government enemy number one. The paranoia surrounding government surveillance becomes a real threat for Snowden and the filmmakers as the allegations hit the airwaves.
