We Live In Public

EYES WITHOUT A FACE

Curated by Australian Centre for the Moving Image

You may not have heard of him before but in his own way dot.com visionary Josh Harris predicted the increasing prevalence of the Facebook and social media generation in documenting their every move and making it available for public consumption.

This willing acquiescence of privacy is played out in Harris’s fraught idea to record the lives of 100 volunteers in a contained environment underground and stream it on the web. Called Quest the notorious project gets quickly shut down by the fire department but the increasingly erratic Harris has the idea to move himself and his girlfriend into an apartment where every single room was Webcast 24 hours a day. Naturally the results are disastrous for his relationship and his mental health. Ultimately Timoner’s fascinating film plays as a dark cautionary tale for the social media generation
